London’s Calling – Crosby Butchery Training scoops 4 awards at Institute of Meat awards

Crosby Butchery Training were today awarded the best Meat Training Provider of 2016 at the Institute of Meat awards at the Tallow Chandler Hall, London. Our team of 4 (Head of Food Neil McGregor, HR Apprentice Tom Bartlett, Centre Coordinator & Assessor Joanne Cadman and Functional skills Tutor Syema Majeed) were accompanied at the ceremony by award winner and Head of Butchery, Kevin Meades.

The ceremony hosted by the Institute of Meat is a prestigious awards ceremony and for CBT to win the award of Best Meat Training Provider is a real testament to the work put in by the team throughout the year. CBT was joined as an award winner as mentioned above by Kevin Meades, our Head of Butchery at CBT, who was awarded Master Butcher status by the IoM. Our Meat and Poultry Level 3 apprentice Tara Davies, who works for Humphreys Butchers (formerly of The Gogs), was awarded Best Retail Apprentice of the Year whilst former apprentice Daniel Turley, who works for Aubrey Allen, was awarded Best Meat Processing Student.

The event was a fantastic one to be a part of from start to finish and those that won were fully deserved winners. Joanne Cadman, who collected the award on Crosby’s behalf said ‘CBT are delighted to have been awarded Best Meat Training Provider and are very proud of our apprentices and staff who were also recognised today. The award is a testament to the team and we look forward to another successful year in 2017’. Head of Food Neil McGregor said ‘2017 is going to be another exciting year with the Launch of Crosby’s Elite Young Butchers Club and the introduction of the Level 3 Advanced Butcher.

One of our apprentices Reece Nevard, employed by Walter Smith Fine Foods, was also present as he is about to complete and under go his end-point-assessment (EPA)  to achieve his Butchery Trailblazer apprenticeship standard. Reece said ‘ I found attending the event today a valuable experience and was grateful to be offered the opportunity’.

Reece is one of the first three Trailblazer apprentices to be registered for their Butchery standard apprenticeship on 15 October 2015 and is about to undertake his EPA early this year. If successful Reece will be joint first (along with his Colleague Stephen Maltby (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ6LXP-ILvg ) to achieve the new standard. We wish them both all the best for their EPA.
